Adult Education & Community Science

Learn, steward, and contribute to the future of the prairie.

The Coastal Prairie Conservancy offers workshops, webinars, and citizen science opportunities for adults who want to build skills in land management, restoration, and wildlife monitoring. Whether you are a landowner, producer, or someone who loves contributing to conservation science, these programs help deepen your understanding of the coastal prairie while supporting real ecological outcomes.

Adult Education Programs

Designed for landowners, agricultural producers, and adults interested in prairie conservation, restoration, and stewardship, these programs offer opportunities to learn from CPC staff, partners, and conservation experts.

What We Offer:

  • Habitat restoration workshops

  • Land management and stewardship trainings

  • Native plant propagation sessions

  • Webinars on conservation, wildlife, and prairie ecology

  • Field demonstrations and seasonal programs

All public-facing workshops, trainings, and virtual learning opportunities are housed on our partner site, prairiepartner.org:

These resources are regularly updated and include technical guidance, event announcements, downloadable materials, and practical tools for landowners and conservation practitioners.

Community Science Opportunities

Help us document, monitor, and understand the prairie.

Community science allows anyone — no prior experience required — to support CPC’s conservation work by collecting and sharing data. These efforts help inform restoration decisions, track wildlife, and improve long-term ecological monitoring.

Programs You Can Join:

  • BioBlitz Events

Join CPC-led BioBlitzes to record plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife across our preserves. Your observations help track species diversity and seasonal changes. Check out our event calendar for upcoming events.

  • iNaturalist Projects

Use the iNaturalist app while visiting CPC preserves or attending events. Your observations help CPC monitor biodiversity, detect rare species, and understand long-term ecological trends.

  • eBird Checklists

Submit your bird sightings to eBird anytime you visit the prairie. These data contribute to regional and global bird monitoring efforts.

  • Christmas Bird Count

Join us on Jan 1 of each year to participate in one of the longest-running community science efforts in the world by helping survey winter birds in designated count circles on the coastal prairie. Learn more about the event on the Audubon website .

  • Prairie Dawn Monitoring

Join us in March to help monitor our native prairie dawn population on the Katy Prairie, a critical endangered plant species. Email us at info@coastalprairieconservancy.org for details.

  • Wetland Monitoring

Assist CPC staff and partners with monitoring wetland health, water quality, and wildlife activity through guided field surveys.
