Private Group Volunteering

Looking for a meaningful way to make a difference together? The Coastal Prairie Conservancy welcomes private groups to spend a day helping restore and protect the coastal prairie. Whether you are a class, club, family group, or circle of friends, volunteering together is a hands-on way to learn, connect, and give back to the land.

Learn, Serve, and Explore

Private Volunteer Days are more than just workdays — they can include presentation and guided tour components that give your group a deeper understanding of the prairie ecosystem and the importance of conservation. Groups can combine hands-on restoration with guided hikes, wildlife observation, or discussions about land management, ecology, and native plant restoration.

What Group Volunteers Do

Volunteer Days support real conservation projects that make an immediate impact. Activities vary by season and may include:

  • Harvesting and cleaning native prairie seed

  • Removing invasive vegetation to encourage native growth

  • Restoring prairie and wetland habitats

  • Maintaining trails, benches, and wildlife houses

  • Assisting in the native plant nursery

Our staff will guide your group throughout the day and ensure a meaningful balance of service and education.

Scheduling and Fees

Private Group Volunteer Days can be booked on Tuesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays.
Participation is $5 per person, which helps cover materials, tools, and staff time. If financial hardship is a concern, we are happy to waive this fee.

These experiences can also be arranged as service-learning field trips for schools, homeschool groups, and community organizations.

Group Size

We can accommodate up to 80 participants at a time. Larger groups may be divided into smaller teams or rotations for both field work and educational sessions.

Current Project: 20,000 Milkweeds for Monarchs

CPC volunteers are helping us plant 20,000 milkweed plants across the Katy Prairie to support monarch butterflies and other pollinators. Private groups can assist by planting in the field as part of this ongoing pollinator initiative.
