Stephen Deiss was raised in Rosenberg, Texas, where his passion for land and wildlife was inspired by time spent hunting and fishing with his uncle, a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden. He developed an early interest in agriculture through his grandmother’s small cattle herd and by working on local farms and ranches during his childhood.

Stephen earned a degree in Animal Science and Range Science from Texas A&M University, where he worked at the Beef Cattle Center and assisted with rangeland research. These experiences deepened his knowledge of livestock management and honed his skills in teaching and scientific fieldwork. He later returned to A&M to earn an MBA.

His professional career includes roles as a regional manager, district conservationist, and rangeland management specialist with conservation agencies. He also worked for a large ranch in the Coastal Bend developing livestock water infrastructure, and with the Wildlife Habitat Federation, where he created conservation plans and delivered presentations on topics like grazing management, prescribed fire, and brush control.

Stephen joined CPC in 2025. He and his wife, Laura, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have two sons: one a geneticist in Wisconsin and the other a STEM educator in Colorado. In his free time, Stephen enjoys playing guitar and fiddle and is a lifelong baseball fan.
